Description
Attaining performance standards comparable to the larger SCR-3215sm reference loudspeaker in a more compact and easy to install format was no small task, but was the overriding goal in the development of the SCR-2215sm.
A true three-way loudspeaker design, the SCR-2215 employs a sophisticated coaxial compression driver mounted to a single 18” x 22” large format horn. Employing two subsystems in one, each driver is optimized for its performance across a narrower frequency range. As such, power handling and dynamic range are increased while providing extended bandwidth. The result is a smooth, effortless presentation of vocals and instrumentation, delivered with dynamics that give motion picture soundtracks a believable sense of scale.
Low frequency duties of the SCR-2215sm are performed by dual 15-inch woofers with a system sensitivity of 102dB. Moving air with over 350 square inches of combined surface area, each low frequency driver is supported by dual ports and powered by a massive motor system weighing nearly 30-pounds. The 4-inch voice coils maximize thermal power handling, allowing the SCR-2215sm to reproduce live concert sound pressure levels for extended periods of time without fear of driver failure.
To meet the demands of the broadest range of installations and possible screen sizes, the enclosure of the SCR-2215sm has been designed in a modular format. The mid / high-frequency horn and each of the two woofers are housed in separate modules, allowing the speaker to be configured vertically or horizontally as needed to suite the installation application.
As with all PRO cinema loudspeakers, proprietary Digital Signal Processing (DSP) is employed to provide all crossover functions, time correction, and very high resolution frequency response shaping, eliminating restrictive passive filter networks from the signal path. Since signal filtration is achieved prior to amplification, the output stage of each amp channel is directly wired to the input terminals of its associated driver, maximizing power transfer and control. Bass is tight and accurate, and delivered with the same visceral slam experienced in the commercial theater or concert setting.
Engineered as a reference product, the SCR-2215sm and companion DPA amplifiers are part of a sophisticated digital cinema system employing proprietary DSP. Maximum output is >130 dB, making the SCR-2215 the loudspeaker of choice for large to very large room applications where installation depth may be a concern.
